{"id":630,"date":"2019-09-02T18:44:42","date_gmt":"2019-09-02T16:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/actforyourplanet.com\/?p=630"},"modified":"2026-05-22T23:24:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T21:24:55","slug":"cities-carbon-offset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/actforyourplanet.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/02\/cities-carbon-offset\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Offset in cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Climate change and global warming present an existential threat to the human race, and will require a unified global response at all levels of society.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Initiated by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and made possible thanks to the support of Climate KIC and ofo, <i>Reinventing Cities<\/i> is an unprecedented global competition to drive carbon neutral and resilient urban regeneration.<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Scientists estimate that we are currently on a trajectory that will increase average global temperatures by two degrees above pre-industrial levels by 2100. If these emissions are not appropriately addressed, cities will become increasingly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the city\u00a0lies an opportunity, as urban density presents a greener way of living. Urban density can create the possibility for a better quality of life and a lower carbon footprint through more efficient infrastructure and improved urban planning.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, cities and private actors must work together to showcase new models for decarbonised development, buildings, and services to households and businesses in hopes for their widespread uptake and adoption<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-631 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/actforyourplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ville--300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"326\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/actforyourplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ville--300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/actforyourplanet.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ville-.jpg 308w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As Mayors, we are committed with the C40 to move a step forward in our fight against climate change and to organize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c40reinventingcities.org\/en\/\">Reinventing Cities<\/a>, an unprecedented global competition to stimulate sustainable development and to celebrate innovative solutions to environmental and urban challenges.<\/p>\n<p>We hope <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c40reinventingcities.org\/en\/\">Reinventing Cities<\/a> will set new standards of carbon-neutral and resilient development and will enable the implementation of projects across a wide range of architecture, typology and usage.
